The Latvian low fare airline Air Baltic connects the Danish capital to both Riga in Latvia and Vilnius in Lithuania.

Conveniently the booking engine allows you to book onward connecting flights from Latvia to Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia, to Kiev and other cities in Ukraine and to more destinations in Belarus, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Air Berlin

Europe's third-largest low cost airline operates numerous connections from the Danish capital to cities across Western Europe, completely outstripping easyJet and Ryanair in terms of destinations from Copenhagen.

Note that while both Sterling and Snowflake fly to a handful more destinations from Denmark, Air Berlin is the only budget airline at present which connects Copenhagen to places such as Ibiza in the Balearic Islands and Zurich in Switzerland.

British Airways

British Airways offers reasonably competitive one-way and return low fare flights from London Heathrow to Copenhagen Kastrup. One-way flights start at £52 including taxes, while return flights start at £109 including taxes.

Blue 1

Finland's low cost airline Blue 1 flies budget routes from Copenhagen not only to Helsinki but also to the Finnish cities of Tampere, Turku and Vaasa.

Booking far enough ahead, you can find one-way flights between Finland and Denmark for as cheap as €54 including taxes.

DAT

Danish Air Transport website

The small Denmark-based carrier Danish Air Transport flies to Denmark's Baltic island of Bornholm as well as operating connections to Stavanger in Norway and to Palanga and Kaunas in Lithuania.

With the exception of flights to Bornholm, however, none of Danish Air Transport's fares are particularly competitive. Try Air Baltic instead for connections to or from Lithuania and Sterling or Snowflake for connections to or from Norway.

The well known orange no-frills carrier links Copenhagen to Berlin in Germany for as little as €24 one-way including taxes and to London in the UK for as little as £26 one-way including taxes.

Estonian Air

Estonia's flag-carrier is the only low fare airline operating direct flights between the Estonian and Danish capitals at present and flies from Tallinn Ulemiste to Copenhagen Kastrup for fares as low as €64 one-way including taxes.

Fly Nordic

The less well-known Swedish budget carrier Fly Nordic operates two shuttle routes connecting Copenhagen to Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden and to Stockholm, the Swedish capital, on the east coast.

Iceland Express

Iceland's budget carrier Iceland Express is now not only flying from the Danish capital to the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik, but also to the town of Akureyri in the northeast of Iceland.

Ryanair

Ryanair only flies from London Stansted to Århus and Esbjerg in Denmark at present.

But thanks to the trouble-free connections between Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö, just across the Öresund gap, the airline operates one of the cheapest connections from London to the Danish capital via Malmö Sturup airport.

Skyways

Skyways is a regional Swedish carrier with occasional low fares which connects Copnhagen to three cities in the southern part of Sweden.

Smart Wings

Smart Wings operates a direct low cost shuttle connection between Prague and Copenhagen in competition with the larger Denmark-based airlines Sterling and Snowflake.

Snowflake

Snowflake used to operate as the independent low fare arm of SAS but is now - essentially - the economy class brand on many SAS short-haul European flights.

As such, Snowflake flies from Copenhagen to more low cost destinations across Europe than either Air Berlin or Sterling, though, unlike Sterling, it does not operate a network of routes out of Billund as well as Copenhagen.

Though Snowflake is a good fallback option when hunting out the cheapest flights, it is likely that the dedicated low cost and low fare airlines reviewed on this page will usually beat Snowflake's fares if you book sufficiently far in advance.

For instance, Snowflake flies from Copenhagen to Amsterdam for a reasonably competitive cheapest one-way fare of 591 DKK including taxes - equivalent to €80.

By contrast, transavia will get you from Copenhagen to Amsterdam for a lowest regularly available fare of €56 including taxes, Air Berlin will do the same for €49 including taxes and Sterling will fly you between the two capitals for as little as 325 DKK including taxes - amounting to only €44.

Note that Snowflake offers the only low fare connection from Copenhagen to Luxembourg City.

Sterling

Sterling is the leading low cost carrier of both Denmark and Scandinavia as a whole, operating two pan-European budget route networks from Denmark alone, out of Copenhagen Kastrup and Billund airports.

It is the only low cost carrier connecting Denmark to the Canary Islands, the only airline operating budget flights from Denmark to Crete and the only discount airline flying from Copenhagen to anywhere in Portugal.

Given that you book far enough in advance, Sterling will often beat the fares of both Air Berlin and Snowflake, the only other two carriers operating substantial low fare route networks out of Denmark.

The Dutch low cost / charter hybrid airline, transavia, flies a budget shuttle route from Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

Virgin Express operates low cost flights between Copenhagen and Brussels International airport in Belgium. Compare fares with Snowflake to make sure you're getting the cheapest flight.

Wizz Air

While most other no-frills airlines offer only point-to-point routes, Wizz Air is now offering routes which involve connecting flights.

Essentially, Wizz Air flies from Budapest in Hungary and Warsaw in Poland to Malmö in the south of Sweden, from where you can find shuttle bus connections to Copenhagen.

However Wizz Air also operates flights to Malmö from Sofia in Bulgaria, via Budapest and from Kaunas in Lithuania, via Warsaw.

Taking two flights sounds like it ought to be more expensive, but, in fact, the lowest fare from Kaunas to Warsaw to Malmö on Wizz Air comes to only €59 including taxes - cheaper than flying direct from Palanga to Copenhagen on Snowflake (€78) or from Vilnius to Copenhagen on Air Baltic (€79).
