Swiss Low Cost Airline

Given that Germania Express and Snowflake have long since stopped operating low cost flights to Macedonia, helvetic is currently the only budget airline providing flights from western Europe to this part of the Balkans.

The Swiss discount carrier flies each way between Zurich and Skopje for a lowest one-way fare of €185 including taxes. If that doesn't sound like much of a budget option to you, it doesn't to us, either. Air Prishtina's flights to Kosovo might well be a cheaper option - see the note below.

Budget Travel Tip: An alternative to flying direct to FYR Macedonia

Given the lack of cheap direct flights to Skopje, you might consider flying to Pristina in the UN-administered Serbian exclave of Kosovo as a money saving alternative. You can then easily travel by bus from Pristina to Skopje.

At present there are four low fare airlines flying to Pristina. Air Prishtina flies from Zurich and Geneva and offers cheaper flights to Pristina than helvetic does to Skopje. Also: British Airways flies to Pristina from London, Club Air flies to Pristina from Verona in Italy and germanwings connects to Pristina from Cologne Bonn in Germany - offering the lowest fares to Kosovo from anywhere in western Europe.
